‘Experience & Understand’ Jazz Guitar Basics!

Take Your Rock & Blues Playing A Step Deeper [Or, Just Jump Straight In]!

Are you ready to go just a little bit deeper than ‘basic rock & blues’ with your guitar playing? For a fun alternative, how about jumping into ‘basic jazz guitar’?

No New Techniques Required To Experience A Whole New Sound!

The reason I say ‘basic’ jazz guitar is because what I am playing in the video below is just that - it’s ‘basic jazz guitar’ that is not much more complex to play than basic rock & blues music. Actually, in some ways it’s a lot easier! However, the distinct change in sound can be quite exciting and refreshing to have at your finger tips – and, it might be ‘just what the doctor ordered’ for rock and blues players who have grown a bit tired of the ‘single scale sound’ that is at the center of most basic rock and blues songs.

For Example: The jazz guitar piece being played, above, is based upon just a regular 12 bar blues in the key of C. However, the melody in this piece moves back and forth multiple times between C7, F7 & G7 to create the jazz sound [compared to the classic blues sound that could have been produced over the same chord progression].

What It’s Made Of [The Surprisingly Simple Answer]!

Then, on top of creating and experiencing fresh new sounds, we get to dig into what it [the basic jazz sound] is made of!  Once we understand the surprisingly simple answer to this question, we can then have a blast creating our own jazz compositions over a variety of standard jazz chord progressions!

Basic Jazz Guitar Is A Great ‘Cross-Training’ Tool!

Once you have worked through one or more of my basic jazz etudes, you are going to have made improvements to your timing, technique, and knowledge of musical concepts and theory. These are all important elements that can be quickly applied to other music styles as well [keeping in mind that other [simpler] music styles are not always as helpful for learning and refining these elements]!

Where Would We Start [w/ Virtual Lessons]?

So, if we go ahead and do some virtual Jazz Guitar Lessons to help you get started, what would we do first? Most likely we would start with a simpler solo like the one just below. It uses just ‘one key’ for the entire solo! From there we will simply take it one-step-at-a-time as we work together to help you build your own personal momentum!
