One of the simplest ways to have fun making music is to grab an acoustic guitar and strum the songs that take you back! Maybe you have friends and family who are eager to sing along, or you can just learn to sing them yourself!

The list of things to know, to have fun strumming and singing, is relatively short.
1) You will need to learn a few chords. You can play a lot of songs using the same three chords. This is a great way to get started. Then, along the way you can learn more chords whenever needed. Start with three, jump right into making music, and then expand.
2) You will need to learn at least one strumming pattern. This is when it gets fun. Different styles of music use different strumming patterns. Ultimately, it’s nice to have some variety, but it only takes one strumming pattern to jump right into the joy of making music!
That’s it… Now you are making music!
Whether you choose to play some Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Credence Clear Water Revival, The Beatles, or old country and bluegrass songs, the simple formula is the same!
A Lot Of People Don’t Know That They Can Sing!
There are some tricks that can help anyone learn how to sing, such as learning how to find the right key for your vocal range. This is easier than it sounds, especially after you learn to use an inexpensive tool called a capo.
Lessons With Step-By-Step Instructions!
If you have always wanted to learn how to strum the acoustic guitar and have fun making music, you and I can do virtual lessons to help you get started and get going!
It Really Can Be Done!
I have taught beginner guitar courses, for adults, at more than one community college. This experience, along with teaching private students, has taught me that people really can learn to play, even if they had failed multiple times in the past.
"Trying One Last Time!"
More than one student has said to me, “I am trying one last time.” And, in a short period of time, they could play! This is one of the reasons why my beginner courses were so popular. Plus, I get a great feeling from helping people ‘get over the hump’ and into making music!
Song That Take Us Back!
Before we talk more about lessons, here, below, are some more songs that I enjoy strumming. These are songs that take me back to being a kid and growing up in Pennsylvania around my grandparents who absolutely loved country and bluegrass music! I remember watching the Grand Ole Opry with them, and Hee Haw!
