Nate’s Hot-Rod-Guitar Shop!

Welcome to my hot-rod-guitar shop - and, welcome to the home of something I refer to as the ‘hot rod guitar sound’. It’s a combination of rockabilly, bluegrass, jazz, blues, and more [especially country & rock].

Check out the following video - and, notice, in each example, that I am playing ‘’the same line’ and ‘the same key’ over various grooves and tempos for the sake of comparison.

I developed this approach to serve more than one purpose. With that said, here are three encouraging points that stand out:

1) The ‘rules’ for how to get this sound are very simple

2) Learning and practicing simplified material like this is a lot of fun

And, 3) Learning and practicing simplified material like this helps to build an excellent set of skills / musical foundation needed for playing, and understanding, a great variety of music styles.

Plus: As a bonus, this hot rod guitar approach is especially great for players who need a bit of help ‘keeping it going’ with faster tempos and with funky, swampy and half-time grooves!

Plus, Plus: One of the reasons I developed this approach was to have access to guitar fills and guitar solos that can be played with or without accompaniment. Check out the following video for an example:

The hot rod guitar sound sits somewhere in the middle of rockabilly, bluegrass, jazz, blues, and more [especially country & rock] and is school, all by itself, for how to break away from the pentatonic scale. In this way, not only is it a lot of fun to play, but it’s also a very wise study for beginner guitar players who are looking to build an excellent functional musical foundation!

I specialize in helping beginner guitarists build their musical foundations and in helping intermediate level guitarists get up to the next level!
